More Young Americans die from COVID than Europeans
IN A previous article I discussed the death of a 30 year old Texas man who succumbed to COVID. This wasn’t an outlier, however what is an outlier is that more young people are dying from COVID in America than in Europe. Wearing a face mask now is more important than ever due to these grim implications.
Although the coronavirus can strike all age groups, it’s well known that the elderly face the greatest risk. In wealthy nations ravaged by the coronavirus, around 60% of all fatalities from COVID – 19 are among people who are aged 80 or older. The United States however is the outlier. Data released from the CDC indicate that the fatality rate bends towards younger people. Americans in their 80s make up for less than half of all deaths, while Americans under 60 years old make up for a significantly larger portion of those unfortunate enough to die. The median age of COVID sufferers in the United States is 48 while in Italy the median age is 63 years old.
What is causing COVID fatality rates to be more skewed towards younger people in United States? Part of the reason surely is that the median age in the United States is 38 years compared whereas Italy’s median age is 45. Another likely reason is that Americans may be less healthy and may have more pre-existing conditions that are contributing to COVID associated deaths.
The youthfulness of COVID – 19’s victims means that not enough people are wearing face masks and as a result are being robbed of their precious life. COVID – 19 has shortened the lives of its American victims by roughly 11 years compared to about nine years in the hardest hit European countries. Proper mask discipline is critical for protecting your life and the lives of everyone around you.
New cases are surging in the United States right now. America is utterly failing at flattening the curve, and a contributing factor is either not wearing a mask or using a cloth based facial covering that provides limited to no protection against this deadly virus. I personally recommend the following US made face masks because they provide both comfort for the wearer during the summer as well as surgical mask grade protection. Plus just like with a cloth facial covering, these face masks can be washed and reused. If everyone were to wear a face mask everyday for just 3 weeks, we may be able to end the coronavirus crisis just like it has ended in East Asia.
